Call for Nominations: TAAOM Board of Directors

When the TAAOM reconvenes its Annual Meeting in Austin on December 11, 2011, elections for the Board of Directors will be held. The TAAOM is seeking interested candidates to serve two year terms as Directors and to possibly be selected to serve on the Executive Committee. The obligation requires making periodic conference calls and in-person meetings to include the Annual Meeting held in Houston in even numbered years and in Austin in the odd-numbered legislative years. Duties will routinely involve decision-making consistent with the strategic plan and possible service on committees, task forces, and working groups. HISTORY

The Texas Acupuncture Association (TAA) was founded in 1992 before the practice of acupuncture was legal in the State of Texas.  It was through their efforts that acupuncture became legal and professionally licensed in Texas.  In 2001 TAA changed its name to the Texas Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (TAAOM) in order to better represent all facets of Traditional Chinese Medicine.  Today it is the largest organization in the state with well over 100 members.  

 MISSION

Following are some of the purposes for which TAAOM was founded:

  • To elevate and maintain the standards of education and advance the art and science of acupuncture and oriental medicine.To promote and assist in the establishment of legislation that supports and upholds, and oppose legislation that harms and damages the acupuncture and oriental medicine profession.To assist in the establishment of just health laws and codes and to support such laws and codes where established.To protect and preserve the rights of its members.To facilitate unity and better communications among all Texas acupuncturists.
  • To develop and establish continuing education programs.

MEMBERSHIP

Membership is open to all acupuncturists holding a current license/certification issued by the Texas State Board of Acupuncture Examiners (TSBAE) as well as students currently enrolled in a masters level acupuncture program.  If you are a licensed acupuncturist and do not belong to TAAOM, please consider joining now. Benefits of Membership
